Lightning

Model #6

The Lightning Bug

Fate quindi molta attenzione.

The Lightning Bug  or model No. 6

The Vibroplex was produced the Lightnig  model from 1927, until 1980.

In sequence is defined the model # 6, although in reality it was before production began on the Midget, this jump numbering, perhaps due to the Midget as it gave a  "minor" value as a sales market, but it is only a hypothesis .

The Lightning Bug is a project made from Mr. John A. The Hiff, technical Vibroplex, and is a turning point in the production Vibroplex.

Been joined by the innovative construction, which effectively simplify and economize the production of this Bug.

It adopts for the first time a frame composed of several parts, two pylons tubular support and two triangular plates, against the old frame format from a single block.

The Lightning  is the first "assembled frame" Bug produced by Vibroplex, after with same priciple follow two others models, the Champion and the Zephyr.

The Dumper-type "M" consists of the two tubular pillars of sustenance, connected at the top by a plate of iron, where in turn there is hinged the true damping system which consists of a metal cylinder.

It adopts for the first time an arm plate and a weight of cubic form.

The first Lightning had standardized Japanned finish paintstripe or black, the base was optional nickel-plated.

It can be seen from the advertisements of the time that you could have on demand, and at the same cost as the standard version also colored base, available in plain red, green or blue.

Colored versions of these "smooth", formally proposed the advertising period were found from 1932 until 1936, even if you know that there are some models produced before this period, perhaps of special order.

Of colored bases if they are produced only at the request of the customer, even after this period, the color ranges are the same, but with paint "crackle".

The speech "color" is long and varied, essentially smooth bases, were stained above the bases previously finite black in color, then the Bug has the colored base, except the bottom of the base, these bases "smooth" are colored scarce to find.

Then there are also colored bases only on the top, or with the addition of paint with colored stripe.

The colorful "crackle" instead have the color on the whole surface of the base.

A beyond all these variants, there are doubts on the originality of some types of colored bases.

So we can deduce easily that the original base colors are those made between 1932-36, with serial numbers 103xxx 109xxx-reported even in advertising Vibroplex, the others may be original, but being the special order, before you make a purchase it must sift through very well.

To complete the theme "color", were found colored bases for the models and Original Blue Racer, a case of a Norcross “double lever”.

It is clear that these bases are colored original to a narrow exception.

Since 1940, the standard finish of the Lightning was changed to black crackle from the mid-50s was used the gray crackle colour.

The Deluxe version of the Lightning Bug has been very popular.

During the Second World War, due to lack of materials, the Deluxe version takes the color "crystal gray" (model not very common).

Is worth noting that in the same period Vibroplex take the plates of iron (model D5), leaving at this time of the classic brass plates.

The Lightning Bug production ceases in 1980.

Just in 1979, then a little before removing from production Lightning the Vibroplex apply two new colors "Sienna" Beige and crackle.

The Deluxe version Chrome is placed on the market after the Second World War, there is also another innovation of the Technical JA The HIFF, the so-called jeweled bearings mounted between the pivot and the main frame to mitigate friction to a minimum, plus the scoop and the red knob, and in 1948 introduced the latest addition is "adjustable main spring".
